Search "Temu image size" and the numbers do not agree. One guide says 800 px, another says 1,600 px. White background is "required" in one place and "white or neutral" in the next. Apparel gets a different ratio from everything else. Temu's own Seller Center rules sit behind a seller login, so we could not open them. This guide labels every number by where it comes from, so you know which ones to trust and which to check on the upload screen.

Temu's guidance varies by category and country site, and it changes without much notice. Treat this table as a starting point and let the live upload screen in Seller Center have the final say.

Temu Main Image Rules

The main image is the one shoppers see first in search, so it carries most of the rules.

The remaining slots are where angles, material close-ups, lifestyle context and a size image belong. A clear size or dimensions image is a common tip for cutting returns, especially for apparel.

Apparel Uses a Different Ratio

This is the rule most multi-platform sellers miss. For non-apparel products the carousel images are square. For apparel, one integration guide lists a 3:4 portrait ratio with a 1340 x 1785 px minimum, so a square export built for another marketplace will not fit. Our Zalando image requirements guide covers a similar portrait rule, and the same recut works as a starting point for both.

Why Every Guide Gives Different Numbers

Three things cause the gaps. Temu's rules differ by category and by country site. Older numbers keep being copied into new posts after policies change. And some guides describe what Temu recommends while others describe what it enforces: 800 px is the figure most often quoted as the floor, and 1,600 px is the figure most often quoted as the target.

You do not have to settle the argument. Shoot to the strictest version of every number and all of them are covered.

One Master Spec That Clears Every Version

  1. Non-apparel: shoot and edit square (1:1) at 1,600 x 1,600 px. That clears the 800 px floor and meets the 1,600 px target.
  2. Apparel: use 3:4 portrait at 1,800 x 2,400 px. That clears the 1340 x 1785 px minimum and keeps the exact ratio.
  3. Put the main image on pure white, RGB 255,255,255. It satisfies both the "white or neutral" and the "pure white" readings.
  4. Center the product and keep it fully in frame, with no text, border, watermark or logo.
  5. Export JPEG or PNG under 3 MB. Check the file size, not just the pixels.
  6. Upload at least three images, and use the extra slots for angles, close-ups, scale and in-use context.

The same square master also works on other platforms. Our Shopee image requirements guide and TikTok Shop image guide use a similar white-cover approach, so one edited set can serve several marketplaces.

Fixing Photos That Fail Without a Reshoot

Most failed Temu photos come down to two jobs: a clean cutout on true white and a correct export.

As a worked example, take one simple non-apparel product with a main image cutout and three files resized to spec. That is $0.39 plus 3 x $0.19, so $0.96 per listing.

To check that a background is truly white and not just white-looking, use the colour-picker method in our pure white background guide. It is written for Amazon, but the pixel check is the same on any marketplace.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should Temu product images be?

For non-apparel products, use square 1:1 images. Guides quote a minimum of 800 x 800 px and a recommended 1,600 px on the longest side, and we could not confirm the exact figures in a current Temu document. Shoot at 1,600 x 1,600 px and check the Seller Center upload screen before a big batch.

Does Temu require a white background?

Guides disagree. Some say the main image should be white or neutral, and others say pure white RGB 255,255,255 is required. Pure white is the safest choice either way.

What ratio does Temu use for apparel images?

One marketplace integration guide lists 3:4 portrait with a 1340 x 1785 px minimum for apparel, and 1:1 for non-apparel. Edit apparel at 1,800 x 2,400 px to clear it.

How many images do I need for a Temu listing?

Third-party guides say at least three images are needed to publish, and a UK seller guide mentions up to ten secondary images. Use the extra slots for angles, close-ups, scale and lifestyle context.

What file format and file size does Temu accept?

Integration guides list JPEG, JPG and PNG files up to 3 MB per image. Keep every file under 3 MB.
