Vinted's Help Centre is clear about what a listing photo should show and silent on what it should measure. Its page on photos allows up to 20 photos per listing, wants the whole item in the first picture, and rules out collages, stock images and watermarks. It states no pixel size, aspect ratio or file-size cap. Third-party guides fill that gap with 4:5 frames and 1080 x 1350 px. This guide separates what Vinted says from what others claim, then shows how to prep one photo set that works.

Vinted Photo Specs at a Glance

We opened Vinted's UK Help Centre page "What photos you should upload" in full. Vinted's US listing steps and its branded-items photo page come from search-result snippets and are marked that way, and so is every third-party number. The last column shows where each point comes from, so you can tell a rule from a rumor.

Where Vinted and the Third-Party Guides Disagree

Is 4:5 a rule or a suggestion?

Vinted's page asks for the whole item in the first photo and gives no ratio. A cross-listing tool's help page says 4:5 portrait is what the Vinted app shows. One photo studio's English guide says Vinted sets no ratio and recommends 4:5 at 1080 x 1350 px, while a search snippet of the same studio's Polish guide words it as a requirement. We treat 4:5 as a popular crop, not a Vinted rule.

You do not have to bet on it. A square crop of a 4:5 photo keeps 80% of the height, so 1600 x 2000 px becomes 1600 x 1600 px. Keep the neckline, logo and hem inside the middle 80% of the height and both shapes work.

Which file-size number?

Vinted publishes no file-size cap or format list on the page we opened. A search snippet of the studio guide above listed a 20 MB cap, but the live English page we opened says the cap is not stated. When a number shows up in one version of a guide and not another, do not build a workflow on it. A 1600 x 2000 px JPEG at normal quality is usually a few megabytes or less, so file size rarely matters in practice. If an upload is ever rejected, check the size and format first.

Does Vinted want a studio look?

Vinted's page asks for natural daylight, true colors and honesty about defects. It does not ask for a white background. One studio guide argues that over-polished photos can look suspicious to buyers of used items, which is an opinion, not a rule. A clean, plain, well-lit background is enough.

One Master File That Works on Vinted and Beyond

Shoot and export a 1600 x 2000 px portrait JPEG in sRGB, with the item centered and a small margin on every side. That is our suggested master, not a Vinted requirement. It is a 4:5 frame, it crops to a 3:4 portrait as 1500 x 2000 px, and it crops to a 1600 x 1600 px square for sites that prefer one.

Most resellers list in more than one place, and the sites do not agree. Here is how the four resale marketplaces we have covered compare:

Details for the other three are in our Depop photo requirements guide, our Poshmark photo requirements guide and our Mercari image requirements guide. So keep one uncropped original and export each platform's version from it, instead of re-cropping an already cropped file. If an upload is ever rejected, the fix is usually a resize or a format change, which our image conversion service handles.

A Shot Plan: Up to 20 Slots, Most Listings Need Fewer

Vinted's own advice is to show the full item first, add several angles, take close-ups of logos, care labels and stitching, and photograph every defect. For branded items, Vinted's help page, seen in a search result, asks for the front, the back and at least three close-ups of authenticity details. This order is our suggestion, built around that advice.

Core slots, for every listing:

  1. Slot 1: the full item, front, plain background, centered, with no collage. This is your thumbnail.
  2. Slot 2: the back.
  3. Slot 3: a worn, hanging or flat-lay view that shows the fit.
  4. Slot 4: the brand label or logo.
  5. Slot 5: the size and care label.
  6. Slot 6: a close-up of fabric, stitching or hardware.
  7. Slot 7: a tape measure laid against the item.
  8. Slot 8: the main flaw, up close.

Extra slots, for branded or higher-value items:

  1. Slots 9 to 11: more authenticity close-ups, such as inner tags, serial labels and logo details.
  2. Slot 12: your receipt or invoice, if you have one. Vinted's page suggests adding proof of purchase for well-known brands.
  3. Slots 13 to 20: any further flaws, and a styled shot if it helps a buyer picture the item.

If you would rather not show your face, Vinted suggests blurring or cropping identifiable features, or using a hanger, mannequin or flat lay instead of modeling the item yourself.

Which Edits Are Safe on Vinted, and Which Are Not

Vinted asks for true colors, no filters and visible defects, and it does not allow stock or watermarked images. So the line is simple: clean up the photo, never the item.

Most casual sellers do not need a cutout. If you list in volume and your home backdrop is cluttered or uneven, slot 1 is where editing pays off most, and a clipping path cutout on a clean background fixes the thumbnail without a reshoot. Uneven lighting across a batch and cluttered backdrops are the usual culprits, and our product photography mistakes guide shows how to avoid them at the shoot stage.

What Cleaning Up Vinted Photos Costs

Prices below are from our live service pages:

Most sellers only need slot 1 cleaned up. A simple cutout plus a basic resize to the portrait master is $0.39 + $0.19 = $0.58 per listing, or $58 for 100 listings. Cutting out all 20 photos at the simple rate would be 20 x $0.39 = $7.80 per listing before conversion, which is rarely necessary. Items with straps or cut-outs, such as bags, may need the medium tier at $0.69.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many photos can I add to a Vinted listing?

Vinted's Help Centre page "What photos you should upload" says up to 20 photos per listing. Vinted's US listing steps, seen in a search result, say the same. Vinted does not say how many photos is best, so use as many as you need to show the front, back, labels, close-ups and every flaw.

What size should Vinted photos be?

The Vinted page we opened does not state a pixel size, aspect ratio or file-size cap. One photo studio recommends 1080 x 1350 px, and that number is not from Vinted. Our suggested master file is a 1600 x 2000 px portrait JPEG in sRGB, which is our own number, not a Vinted rule.

Are Vinted photos portrait or square?

Vinted's page states no ratio. A cross-listing tool says the app shows 4:5 portrait, and one studio guide recommends 4:5 while another version of it words it as a requirement. Treat 4:5 as a popular crop, not a Vinted rule, and keep key details in the middle 80% of the height so a square crop also works.

Can I use a collage, stock photo or watermark on Vinted?

No. Vinted's Help Centre says to show the entire item in the first picture and not to use collages. It also says not to use stock or watermarked images or pictures found online, and to use your own photos. Skip logo overlays on your own photos too, since Vinted says watermarked images are not allowed.

Does Vinted require a white background?

Not on the page we opened. Vinted asks for natural daylight and true colors, and says nothing about background color. A plain, uncluttered background is the easiest way to keep a batch consistent, and white also works if you cross-list to stricter marketplaces.

Can I edit a flaw out of my Vinted photo?

No. Vinted tells sellers to show defects in the photos, and warns that a buyer may cancel and return the item if a defect was not mentioned. It also asks for true colors and no filters. Edit the background, crop, straightening, exposure and white balance so the photo matches the real item, but leave stains, tears and wear visible.
